The Wonders of Lasik
Making Corrective Eyewear a Thing of the Past

By the end of this century, about the only place you’ll find eyeglasses and contact lenses will be on display in a museum. The need for corrective eyewear is dwindling fast, mostly due to ongoing advancements in laser eye surgery. Nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism are all focusing problems within the eye. For nearsightedness and astigmatism, the problem stems from a misshaped cornea. But through laser surgery, the curvature of the cornea can be slightly changed, creating the correct focus and resulting in perfect vision.

The Holiday Feast
Tis the Season to Pull Out All the Stops
By Kirk Leins

Are you feeling somewhat anxious lately? Do you find yourself cringing every time you pass a holiday display at the supermarket? Have your dreams been filled with visions of relatives complaining about overcooked food? If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, chances are you’ve been given the privilege of hosting this year’s holiday family meal. The reason for your apprehension is no real secret. You’ve probably never hosted an event like this before and have no idea where to start.

Paying Off Your Mortgage
It's Not as Attractive as It Sounds

The holidays are upon us and the season of giving is now in full swing. But when you're making your holiday gift list, don't forget that you need to take care of the person writing the checks as well, namely you! Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, recently spoke of the need for all Americans to save more today in order to prevent significant financial consequences in future decades. A critical component for developing future security is the practice of "paying yourself first".

Preparing for Holiday Guests
Ensure Their Happiness and Your Sanity

When it comes to the holidays, our “to do” list seems to be endless. We shop for gifts, attend parties, host parties, decorate our homes, shop for more gifts, plan menus, send cards…you get the picture. But just when you think you’ve got a handle on everything, your doorbell rings. You look through the peep hole and there, standing on the front step, are your relatives. It may just be Mom and Dad at the door, or perhaps it’s a whole group of aunts, uncles, and cousins; it really doesn’t matter. With suitcases in hand, they are ready for an extended stay at your home. The real question is... are you?

Where Do You Go for Your Intellectual Feast?
From the book, Leading an Inspired Life, by Jim Rohn

Pity the man who has a favorite restaurant, but not a favorite author. He's picked out a favorite place to feed his body, but he doesn't have a favorite place to feed his mind! Why would this be? Have you heard about the accelerated learning curve? From birth, up until the time we are about eighteen, our learning curve is dramatic, and our capacity to learn during this period is just staggering. We learn a tremendous amount very fast. We learn language, culture, history, science, mathematics... everything! For some people, the accelerated learning process will continue on.

Preventing Shopping Meltdowns
A Survival Guide for December and Beyond

If you’re a parent, you’ve definitely been there. Due to a combination of circumstances, you’re forced to run out of the house with the kids in tow. Your mission? Go to the store, get what you need, and get out before your beloved offspring perform their interpretation of Linda Blair in The Exorcist. We’ve all witnessed such scenes. Someone’s child decides that he or she must have a certain sugar cereal or toy and won’t take no for an answer. The whole store hears the exchange, complete with screaming, tears, and foot-stomping.

Allergic to Holiday Crowds?
The Solution May be Right in Front of You

Time and money are very precious commodities these days. And, as past years have proven, the demand for both will only increase as we move through December. Luckily, it’s not too late to face these challenges head on. All that’s required is a slight change to your holiday shopping routine. Instead of making a trip (or trips) to the mall, simply let your fingers do the walking. At one time, the aforementioned reference was a promotion for utilizing the phonebook as a shopping resource.
