Quality Time With Teens Volunteering is a great way to help teens learn to give back, offers deepening experiences and conversations, and can help them appreciate what they have. Many organizations are in constant need of volunteers of all ages. Family game night may seem a little old-fashioned in the age of video game consoles and flashy graphics. But even the most devoted gamer will find these awesome board games hard to resist, especially if their favorite snacks are on the menu. Learn something together. Mutual interests provide an opportunity to spend more time together as well as develop common ground. You can take cooking classes or music lessons, get tennis or golf coaching, or even learn to fix old cars or decorate interiors. Best of all, you'll have something to talk about. Let them teach you. You know a lot, but chances are your teen is an expert in something you have no clue about. Whether it's the latest music craze, a best-selling young adult novel or a budding art interest, let your child teach you something new. Exercising is a great excuse to spend quality time together, get out of the house and do something healthy all rolled into one. Whether you shoot some hoops, hit the gym or take a hike, you'll have plenty of time for bonding and conversation! Dance parties are a way to have fun, swap musical tastes and let your hair down together. You can get an impromptu party started by blasting some tunes and inviting your kids to teach you a few of their moves. And, know that they'll likely make fun of yours! Ding-dong-ditch ... with a twist! Instead of pestering the neighbors with a pointless prank, prepare a few plates of freshly baked cookies or brownies and a friendly note. Place them on the neighbor's porch, then hit the doorbell and make a run for it! Climb a family tree. How many family memories have you shared with your children? Looking through old photo albums is a great way to help connect them to the past. And if you want to learn more about your family history, doing some genealogical research together can provide a fascinating experience for you both. Check out a few more ideas for spending quality moments with the teens in your life. Source: Reader's Digest | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
